Who We Are
Alma is a Mexican- American born and raised in the San Fernando Valley. Alma grew up under the pews of a Latino Pentecostal church, but church never felt like the safe place God intended it to be. This is why she ran as far as she could from it as soon as she turned 18.
Once out of church and High School, she struggled in and out of Community College. Never really being able to finish anything she started and after hitting rock bottom in all areas of her life, at the age of 21 she finally said yes to one of her High School friends to attend her church annual youth camp. It was there that she began her relationship with God and a church like she had never understood before.
While in the process of discovering Christ in a new light she felt the strong calling to attend Bible College. She attended ABI, to then get a Bachelor of Christian Ministry from Facultad de Teologia. Soon after she attended Fuller Youth Institute where she finished the Urban Youth Workers Certificate in 2015. It was during her time at Fuller that she connected with the Lake Avenue Community Foundation, and is grateful for the opportunity to learn from this amazing community. She is currently a student at Azusa Pacific University where she is pursuing a Master of Arts in Transformational Urban Leadership.
Together with her husband Sergio they are parents to Esther Elizabeth and Abigail Karis. On her free time she could be found at the nearest coffee shop hanging out with her daughters and her friends.
