Who We Are
Joelle Sabater was born in Saudi Arabia, went to elementary school in the Philippines, and moved to the United States at the age of ten. She lived in Lakewood, where she graduated from Millikan High School in Long Beach. She also recently graduated with a Bachelor’s in Comparative World Literature and Linguistics. Even though she was raised in the church, Joelle re-experienced God in a personal and genuine way during college. Her personal encounters with people in college, and her internship with California Conference for Equality and Justice (CCEJ) led her to committing to social justice work. She hopes working with Stars will help her see how God uses His people to uplift disadvantaged communities. She plans to pursue her Master’s in Social and Cultural Analysis of Education in Cal State Long Beach, or another similar program elsewhere. During her free time, Joelle hunts for new coffee shops with her boyfriend, Brandon, plays video games, reads, and writes poetry.
