Donate Supplies: Check out this list for our latest needs of supplies & food. We receive donations at 500 E. Villa St on Tuesdays from 10am – 1pm.

Giving from your Retirement Account (Required Minimum Distributions)

Money from your individual retirement account can be donated to a nonprofit organization such as Stars, if you choose. What’s more, if you’ve reached the age where you need to make required minimum distributions (RMDs) from your traditional IRAs, you can avoid paying taxes on them by giving them as a charitable contribution to a nonprofit organization, such as Stars. Workplace Giving and Employer Matching Gift Programs

Support Stars through the United Way campaign, or another workplace campaign, by writing in Stars on your payroll deduction authorization form.  Stars’ corporate ID number for United Way of Greater Los Angeles is #29214. For other organizations, you can contact your Human Resources Department directly.

Ralphs and Food4Less

Every time a member shops for groceries and swipes their loyalty card, Stars will automatically start earning a rebate. If you would like some assistance to do this, please contact Stars and we will be glad to assist you. The online sign-up methods are:

Ralphs: Go to Ralph’s Community Contribution Program, create an account if you don’t have one already, go to your “Account Summary” to enter your rewards card number,  then go to “Community Rewards” to enroll Lake Avenue Community Foundation, Org Number DD607.

What is the legal name for Stars?

The organization is doing business as Stars: Illuminate. Educate. Advocate. The legal name is Lake Avenue Foundation.

Is online giving secure?

It certainly is. We use MobileCause and PayPal which are both PCI DSS compliant. This, in fact, makes the process more secure and credit card information is not saved.

Can I set-up recurring gifts?

Yes, you can. Contact Beth Winton at 626.449.4960, ext 9 or bethw@gostars.org and she will take care of it for you. You can also set up monthly giving here, or when you click the “Give Today” button at the top of this page.

How can I get a receipt for my gift?

Stars is a registered 501(c)(3) organization. When giving online here, you will automatically receive an email receipt. We send out contribution statements for all other tax-exempt donations and a receipt for income tax purposes at the end of the calendar year. 

Will I get receipted for non-cash gifts?

Yes. All items donated, like tickets for sporting events, school supplies for our tutoring programs, furniture, etc. will receive a signed Gift-in-Kind receipt.

How does Stars protect my privacy?

Stars respects and protects your privacy. We will never sell or trade your personal information to other individuals or companies. The information that you provide is used only to complete your donation. If you wish, Stars can send you more information about the programs that we offer.
