Kyra Horton is a current student at the University of Southern California studying Political Science and Education. Born and raised in Chicago, she began work in activism and social justice initiatives. While her passion in organizing has centered around political education and equity, her career path has been focused on youth empowerment. She was a Health Educator at the Broadway Youth Center in Chicago, a mentor and tutor for youth of color in south central LA, and most recently served as a facilitator for the Stars summer SKILLZ program.

In her free time, Kyra is a spoken word poet and visual artist. Her paintings have been in many exhibits and she has a published book of poetry. Her work in the arts and with youth all come together to propel her efforts of social justice. Kyra is a daughter, dog-mom, surfer, and skater. She loves spending time outdoors, cooking elaborate recipes, and going on new adventures. She lives by the words, “May I love in a way that deteriorates the existence of structuralized hatred.”
